Volkswagen will start shipping the most powerful
Amarok in September, but they have opened the order books in the United
Kingdom. With a starting price of £ 34,325, excluding tax, it costs
approximately £ 10,000 more than the base Trendline model, which uses a 163 PS oil burner with a manual transmission.
It’s available in the range-topping Highline grade
only, and serves as the replacement for the older 224 PS and
550 Nm unit. The 204 PS engine is still being offered,
with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed auto. Powering the range-topping Amarok is a 3.0-liter V6
TDI making 258 PS and 580 Nm of torque. The output is
channeled to the permanent 4Motion all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed
automatic gearbox.
Speaking about standard gear, this Amarok comes with
automatic climate control, infotainment system with touchscreen display and
App-Connect, reversing camera and Vienna leather upholstery, along with 18-inch
alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights and side bars, front and rear parking sensors
and automatic pre-collision braking system.
One of the Amarok’s main rivals, the Nissan
Navara-based Mercedes-Benz X-Class, is offered from £ 32,774, tax included, in
the X220d 4Matic form, with a 163 PS diesel engine, while the
190 PS X250d 4Matic has a £ 35,172 starting price.
