Royal Enfield has launched a new limited edition
motorcycle in India. Called the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus, the
motorcycle pays tribute to the Royal Enfield RE/WD 125 ‘Flying Flea’ used
during World War 2.
The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus Limited
Edition will be restricted to just 1,000 units. RE has set aside just 250 units
for India. Sale will commence on July 10, 2018, via the
royalenfield.com/pegasus page. The Classic 500 Pegasus is priced at INR 2,49,217. Along with the bike, buyers will get military-style canvas
panniers bearing the Pegasus Logo, one helmet, and a t-shirt from the Pegasus
collection. It is priced at GBP 4,999 on the road in the UK.
The special edition Royal Enfield Classic bears a
maroon and blue Pegasus emblem, which is the official Parachute Regiment
insignia. It sits on the fuel tank along with a serial number. 'Made Like a
Gun' decal is placed on the battery box. All the markings seen on the bike are
based on an actual Word War 2 Fying Flea motorcycle used by the 250th
(Airborne) Light Company. In the UK, two colour options will be offered - Olive
Drab Green and Service Brown. However, only the Service Brown colour will be
available to buyers in India.
The Classic 500 Pegasus also features brown
handlebar grips, a leather strap with brass buckles across the air filter, and
silencers, rims, kickstart, pedals, and headlight bezel finished in black. The
company has introduced a range of accessories to accompany the limited edition
model as well including t-shirts, lapel pins, helmets, caps, etc.
Mechanically, the
Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus is identical to the regular model. It
is powered by a 499 cc single cylinder air cooled engine with fuel injection.
The Classic 500 has a max power and torque output of 27.2 bhp at 5,250 rpm and
41.3 Nm at 4,000 rpm respectively. It gets telescopic forks at the front and
twin gas charged shock absorbers at the rear. The motorcycle is 2,140 mm long,
790 mm wide, and 1,090 mm tall. It tips the scales at 190 kg (kerb weight).
