The Tata Tiago JTP has been spotted by an Overdrive
reader undergoing testing on public roads. While the test mule is partially
camouflaged, the image does reveal detailing identical to the Tiago JTP that
was present at the 2018 Auto Expo. It gets a sportier front bumper and a
functional vent on the hood. At the back, the Tata Tiago JTP features a
sportier bumper, a twin-pipe exhaust tip, and a faux diffuser along the bottom
edge of the bumper. While the test mule gets the regular Tiago's headlamps, the
unit showcased at the Auto Expo featured the Tigor's headlamps with projector
units and black bezels.
The cabin features red highlights around the aircon
vents and contrast red stitching on the upholstery and steering wheel. There is
'JTP' branding on the seat back as well. The Tata Tiago JTP, as showcased at
the Auto Expo, features a 1.2 L Revotron turbo petrol engine developing 110 PS
at 5,000 rpm and 150 Nm at 2,000-4,000 rpm. A 5-speed gearbox handles
transmission duties. Compared to the regular Tiago, the JTP variant sits 9 mm
closer to the ground. The overall height is down by 33 mm. The Tata Tigor JTP
is also powered by the same engine.
Hatchbacks with a power output of 100 PS or more
currently on sale in India include the Ford Figo diesel, Ford Figo 1.5 petrol
AT, Maruti Baleno RS, Honda Jazz diesel, and the VW Polo GT (TSI & TDI).
Despite and increment in power, the 1.2 L petrol engine and sub-4 m length
ensure that the Tiago JTP qualifies as a small car. The Tata Tiago JTP could
carry an estimated price tag of INR 6-7 lakhs (ex-showroom).
According to a report by ET Auto, the Tiago and
Tigor JTP will be launched this fiscal. While the products are unlikely to
become volume drivers, they will help the company reach an audience looking for
affordable products offering something extra in terms of performance. Their
introduction will add another facet to Tata’s ever-expanding PV lineup.
