Aston Martin built only 166 examples of the Vantage
Volante V8 from 1986 until 1989, out of which 78 were fitted with the X-Pack. The latter meant a more powerful
5.4-liter V8 breathing air from behind that classic grille. The unit made
432 hp, which translated into a 0-96 km/h run in less than 6 seconds
and a top speed of 258 km/h.
In addition to having a few extra horses available
on tap, the V8 Vantage Volante X-Pack was also equipped with a new bonnet,
extended front spoiler, flared wheel arches and boot spoiler.
The example shown here was manufactured in 1986 and
was actually used by Aston Martin as a show car for the Earls Court Motor Show.
Its status is highlighted by the special plaque mounted on the center console,
and after the event, it was registered in 1987 and kept by the factory before
being sold to one of the three owners.
Since 1990, the car has been in the possession of a
collector, who took great care of it and spent a small fortune on every work
that was required, including £ 9,000 (US$ 11,852) for a paint refresh back in 2008.
More recently, it received a major service that saw the installment of a new
clutch.
Despite turning 32 this year, this classic Aston
Martin has less than 51,499 km on the clock. Silverstone Auctions estimates
that it could fetch between £ 280,000 and £ 320,000 (US$ 368,719-US$ 421,393) at the
event that takes place at the Silverstone Track in the UK on July 21 and 22.
