Ford managed to take petrol heads by surprise
earlier this year, when they decided to use the ‘ST’ badge on their Edge SUV. Now, half a year later, the Ford
Edge ST is getting ready to go on sale across the United States, with CarsDirect
reporting a starting price of US$ 43,350.
Compared to the 2018 Ford Edge Sport, which could be
had from US$ 41,765, the 2019 Ford Edge ST is US$ 1,585 more expensive. The premium
is justified by the distinctive look, which includes dual exhaust pipes and
21-inch rims, and, of course, the upgraded performance and stopping power.
The twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 engine of the Sport
model works together with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The unit
channels 335 hp and 515 Nm of torque to
both axles, or 20 hp and 41 Nm of torque more than its
lesser sibling.
The price is for the base model. Thus,
playing with the options list can make the Ford Edge ST cost quite a few extra
pennies, as the Performance Brake Package, which is tipped to arrive later on,
will cost another US$ 2,695.
Moreover, adding this to your Edge ST requires the
upgraded Equipment Group, which costs another US$ 5,585, and benefits from heated
and cooled front seats, panoramic roof, navigation system, 180-degree front
camera, and more. Therefore, a fully loaded Ford Edge ST could cost in excess of US$ 51,500, which is some US$ 3,000 less than the base 2018 Audi SQ5.
