The sketches you’re looking at provide us with an
excellent view of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLE’s interior. Looks
promising, doesn’t it? What’s immediately apparent from these images is that the cabin of
the new GLE won’t simply be a re-hash of the existing model. Instead,
Mercedes-Benz has gone to town transforming the SUV’s cabin to make it
dramatically more up-market, modern, and sophisticated.
Inspiration has clearly been taken from the all-new
Mercedes-Benz A-Class. As a result, the dashboard now incorporates two large
displays, one acting as the gauge cluster and the other focusing on navigation
and all other vehicle functions. In the A-Class, these screens are 10.25
inches. In the GLE, they will be 12.3-inches.
While the screens are sizeable and certainly look
the part, the hardware won’t be the highlight. Instead, the software used by
these new screens, dubbed MBUX, will overhaul the user experience from the
company’s old COMAND infotainment system. Mercedes premiered MBUX on the
A-Class and will eventually introduce it to all of its models.
Elsewhere, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will come
standard with a redesigned steering wheel offering no less than 18 different
controls. New air vents are also featured as are large grab handles on either
side of the center console. Mercedes has also said the GLE will make us of an
advanced ambient lighting system.
Beyond the interior, the new GLE will also feature a
much-more appealing exterior design that mimics the look of the GLC. They’ll be
sharp new taillights, a lowered and sleek front fascia, and few design lines
than the outgoing model.
A select of diesel and petrol engines will be
available at purchase, potentially including the 362 hp six-cylinder of the CLS
450. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE is expected to premiere at October’s Paris
Motor Show.
