We get to see what the upcoming X6 might look like. As imagined here by Aksyonov Nikita, the fascia remains
identical to that of the fourth-gen BMW X5. However, click on the second image
and you’ll instantly notice the signature sloping roofline, behind the B
pillars, in addition to the familiar looking tailgate rear lighting units.
Given that the current BMW X6 is four years old, its
successor is likely one or two years away. It will be built on the same CLAR
architecture of the latest X5. This will allow it to be slightly larger than
outgoing model, and thanks to clever engineering, it will also shave a few
kilograms from its total weight.
Most of the engine lineup will also be
shared with the 2019 BMW X5, including the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine that
will power the upcoming M model. It will deliver around 600 PS to the xDrive all-wheel drive system, allowing the next X6 M to be a few tenths
of a second faster.
BMW kept the third-gen BMW X5 F15 in production for
five years, between 2013 and 2018. And if they decide to do the same with the
X6, then we expect the third-gen SAV to show its new design by next year. When
it enters the market, it won’t only have to compete against the Mercedes-Benz
GLE Coupe and Range Rover Sport, but the all-new Audi Q8, too.
