Porsche is expected to unveil the redesigned 911
later this year and it will eventually be followed by a string of
high-performance variants including a new 911 Turbo. Carscoops photographers have snapped a new prototype featuring
center-locking wheels. Since Porsche only makes a couple of 911 models with
these wheels, the prototype is likely the 911 GT3 or 911 GTS. The latter is the
most likely as the prototype eschews the GT3’s trademark rear wing and
center-mounted dual exhaust system.
Instead, the prototype has a power rear spoiler and
a dual exhaust system which isn’t completely centered. The rest of the design is classic 911 as the model has a familiar
shape and wide rear fenders. We can also see evolutionary lighting units and a
sporty rear bumper with vents near the outside edges.
If the current 911 GTS is any indication, the
redesigned model will use the wider body of the 911 Carrera 4 / 4 S. The car could also have a slightly sportier
front bumper, tinted taillights and a number of black accents.
There’s no word on what will power the car, but the
most likely candidate is an upgraded version of the turbocharged 3.0-liter
six-cylinder engine that is expected to reside in the 911 Carrera and Carrera
S. The engine will reportedly produce up to 450 PS in the
latter model, so we can expect the GTS to be even more powerful.
We’ve likely learn more about the
911 GTS in the coming months, but it could be awhile before the car arrives in
showrooms.
