Elon Musk has divulged new details about
the upcoming Tesla pickup, many of which should get tradesmen particularly
excited. Taking on Twitter, as usual, Musk confirmed that the pickup will land
with a dual motor and all-wheel drive setup as standard and offer “crazy
torque.” For those who’ll be using the all-electric pickup for hauling, this is
very good news.
Additionally, Musk says the Tesla Truck
will feature an advanced suspension system that adjusts the rear damping,
rebound and compression depending on what cargo the vehicle is carrying. To add
an extra level of convenience, the truck will also feature power outlets
that’ll allow tradesman to use high-powered tools without a generator.
Other key features for the Tesla Truck
are expected to include 360-degree cameras, sonar and the ability to parallel
park automatically. The electric automaker released the first teaser of the
vehicle at the launch of the Tesla Semi and new Tesla Roadster late last year.
The image depicted a pickup truck so large that it could fit a Ford F-150
Raptor on its bed. What’s more, Musk asserted at the time that customers
wouldn’t need to have a truck license to drive it.
The design of the Tesla Truck is based
on the Semi and will offer seating for up to six. It could therefore redefine
the segment and perhaps be the largest vehicle of its kind on sale, as the only
similar vehicle that pops into our heads is the Ford F-650.
