Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has
launched the 2018 Honda Activa-i in India. The scooter cost marginally higher
than the old model at INR 50,010 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The 2018 Honda Activa-i comes with five colour options
- Candy Jazzy Blue, Lush Magneta Metallic, Imperial Red Metallic, Mat Axis Grey
Metallic and Orchid Purple Metallic. Key features on the new Activa-i include a
four-in-one ignition switch with a separate switch to open the seat, front
hook, a dual-tone analogue instrument cluster and metallic exhaust muffler.
Honda is targeting female riders with the Activa-i,
which offers low weight, smaller dimensions, and added practicality. The
Activa-i is the third scooter in the Activa range after the Honda Activa 5G and
the Activa 125.
Powering the 2018 Honda Activa-i is the same 109 cc,
single-cylinder, 2-valve engine that powers the regular Activa. The air-cooled
engine is tuned to develop 8 bhp of maximum power at 7,000 rpm along with a
peak torque of 9 Nm at 5,500 rpm, mated to a V-Matic transmission. The Activa-i
features 10-inch alloy wheels at the front and back that runs on 90/100-section
tubeless tires.
The scooter comes with a spring loaded hydraulic
suspension setup at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. Braking force comes
from 130 mm drum brakes at both the wheels, while CBS (combined braking system)
is standard. An under-bone type chassis underpins the Honda Activa-i, while the
two-wheeler features fibre body in place of the all-metal body on the Activa
5G. The Honda Activa-i rivals the Hero Pleasure, Suzuki Let’s, Yamaha Ray Z,
and the TVS Scooty Zest.
The 2018 Honda Activa-i gets a fuel tank capacity of
5.3 litres along with a ground clearance of 165 mm and a kerb weight of 103 kg,
while the seat height stands at 765 mm. The scooter receives a top speed of 83
kph.
