The 2019 Chevrolet Malibu RS is getting ready to on
sale Stateside this fall with a starting price of US$ 24,995. Quoting order guides that have
fallen into their hands, the MSRP includes
the US$ 875 destination fee. Compared to the 2019 Malibu LS, the Malibu RS will actually cost US$ 1,000 more, whereas the entry-level Malibu L will set you back at least US$ 21,680.
The RS moniker might have you believe that this
edition of the mid-size sedan packs an extra punch. It’s powered by
the same turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder as the L and LS trim levels. It
churns out 163 hp and 249 Nm of torque and works
together with a new CVT that has yet to be detailed.
Chevrolet already has a CVT on offering in the
Spark, but the one used in the Malibu RS is different, according to Chevy. So, what makes it stand out over
the rest of the range? Well, that would be the black bowtie emblems, black
grille, ducktail spoiler, 18-inch alloy wheels and dual exhaust tips.
There aren’t that many changes inside, as
the 2019 Malibu greets occupants with black cloth seats and a leather-wrapped
steering wheel and shift knob. The car, which is currently in its ninth generation, was already unveiled
earlier this year alongside a few updates for the rest of the lineup.
