Hyundai can’t seem to make up its mind about how to market its Santa Fe crossovers. But it does seem to have things together when it comes to pricing. The Santa Fe linup consists of two models of different sizes. The smaller of the two was called the Santa Fe Sport, and the larger badged simply as the Santa Fe. Now the smaller model has been replaced with the all-new Santa Fe, and the larger (seven-seat) model – which carries over from the previous one – is being rebranded as the Santa Fe XL.

CarsDirect reports that the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL will be priced exactly the same as the last year’s Santa Fe, with which it shares all but that critical suffix. Pricing starts at US$ 31,830 (including the mandatory US$ 980 destination charge). That’s for the base SE model in front-drive spec.

There’s only two trim levels, both offered in front- or all-wheel drive – the top Limited Ultimate AWD model going for US$ 42,280 (delivered). Delve into the full options list released and you’ll find a Premium Package offered on the SE trim for US$ 3,650, and a Tech Package on the Limited Ultimate for US$ 2,100. Otherwise you’re looking at two- and three-figure options like a first-aid kit (for US$ 30) and a tow hitch (for US$ 350).

This compared to the two-row Santa Fe that arrives for 2019 as an all-new model, starting at US$ 26,480 in SE spec and running up to US$ 39,780 for the Ultimate 2.0T AWD. At those rates, the Santa Fes stand as the most expensive models that Hyundai offers in America – eclipsing the all-encompassing US$ 36k sticker on the Ioniq Electric – particularly now that the Genesis (and Equus) models have been spun off under their own brand. On that side of the showroom, you can easily spend a good US$ 75k on a fully loaded Genesis G50 5.0 Ultimate AWD.
