After replacing the heavy plastic body armor with
camo skin earlier this year, prototypes of the second generation Mercedes-Benz
CLA have now adopted different lighting units at the front. Expected to be used by higher spec
models of the compact four-door coupe, the projector headlights have an
integrated LED strip that serves as a DRL function.
Elsewhere, the car sports and updated design all
around while keeping its signature sloping roofline that will differentiate it
from the first-ever Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan. Fewer changes are expected
inside, as the two cars will likely share the dual-screen layout that will take
center stage even in the entry-level versions, ambient lighting available in a
variety of colors, revised trim and higher quality plastics all around.
Underpinned by the same architecture as the new
A-Class hatchback and Sedan, which is the starting point for the next B-Class,
GLA and GLB too, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA will be offered with an assortment
of gasoline and, at least outside North America, with diesel engines as well.
Thrill seekers will have to look at the AMG CLA 35
that will use the same powertrain as the AMG A35, while the AMG 45 variant will
live on, too, with over 400 PS produced by a new turbocharged
2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
