The 2019 Range
Rover Sport is following in the footsteps of its bigger brother and offering a
new plug-in hybrid powertrain in United States. Designed to appeal to
environmentally conscious customers, the Range Rover Sport P400e promises to
combine all the traditional benefits of the model with a lighter carbon
footprint. The SUV has been outfitted with a plug-in
hybrid powertrain that consists of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, an
electric motor and a 13.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The engine produces
296 hp, while the electric motor contributes an additional
141 hp. When the two work together, the model has a combined
output of 398 hp and 639 Nm of torque.
While the plug-in
hybrid powertrain carries over from the Range Rover P400e, the Range Rover
Sport variant is a tad quicker as the dash from 0-96 km/h takes 6.3
seconds. However, the top speed is 220 km/h which is the same figure
as the larger Range Rover. Likewise, the electric only range is 51
km on both plug-in hybrids and both can be recharged in approximately 2 hours
and 45 minutes using a 220V / 32 Amp charger.
The Range Rover
Sport P400e slots in between the HSE Td6 and HSE Dynamic variants and pricing
starts at US$ 78,300. This makes the model significantly more affordable than the
Range Rover plug-in hybrid which costs an additional US$ 16,850.
Besides the
addition of the plug-in hybrid powertrain, the 2019 Range Rover Sport has a
revised color palette that now includes Loire Blue. A handful of packages have
also been revised as the Drive Pro Pack now comes with Adaptive Cruise Control
with Stop & Go.
Likewise, there’s a new Driver Assist Pack which combines
the Drive Pro and Park Pro packs and adds Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering
Assist. A Wade Sensing system is also a new option.
