TeamBHP member Kaushal Chavda snapped these images
of the Baojun 530 near MG Motor India's plant in Halol, Gujarat. As reported
earlier, the Baojun 530 will be used as the base for MG Motor India's first
product due to arrive in showrooms in the second quarter of the calendar year
2019.
The front fascia of the SUV gets LED indicators with
the headlight cluster positioned below in the bumper. The grille features
horizontal slats and will bear the MG logo for the first time. Other details observed on the SUV
include roof rails, diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED turn indicators on the ORVMs
and LED taillight clusters.
According to reports, MG Motor will make some design
changes to appeal to Indian tastes. The SUV measures 4,655 mm long, 1,835 mm
wide, and 1,760 mm tall in the Chinese market. While it is available with a
1.8-liter naturally aspirated and 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engines in
China, for the Indian market, reports state MG will use FCA's 2.0-liter
MultiJet II diesel engine which is seen on the Jeep Compass and expected on the
Tata Harrier.
The Compass and Harrier will be direct rivals for
the MG-badged Baojun 530, though higher variants of the Hyundai Creta and
Mahindra XUV500 will also find themselves in a price war. Media reports state
that MG's first product for India is expected to cost just under INR 20 lakhs.
