BMW India is gearing up for the launch of the BMW M2
Competition and has published some details on its website ahead of its market
launch expected in the coming weeks. BMW India had announced that it would
launch the sport sedan before Diwali.
BMW India seems to have completed the homologation
process for the M2 Competition as it has published the fuel efficiency as
tested under Rule 115 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. The M2 Competition
will return 9.4 km/l with CO2 emissions of 223 g/km, under these test
conditions.
Power for the M2 Competition comes from the
3.0-liter bi-turbo inline six-cylinder petrol engine delivering 410 PS at
5,250-7,000 rpm and 550 Nm of torque at 2,350-5,200 rpm. While the entry-level
M sedan is available with 6-speed manual and 7-speed M dual-clutch automatic
transmissions, BMW India's website talks only about the latter.
With the drive going to the rear wheels, the M2
Competition accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. The top speed is electronically
limited to 250 km/h, but the optional M Driver’s package raises this to 280
km/h.
Reports say that the M2 Competition will be priced
around INR 80-85 lakhs, ex-Showroom. Its closest rivals (in terms of price)
will include the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 and the Audi S5 Sportback. BMW India will
follow up the launch of the M2 Competition with the M5 Competition as well. Its
M portfolio in India includes the M3, M4, and M5 in sedans and X5 M and X6 M in
SUVs. The M2 Competition, like its stablemates, will be imported through the
CBU route.
