Another Chinese carmaker makes an assault on the
Southeast Asia market, and this time it’s Dongfeng. Under the Dongfeng Sokon
(DFSK) brand, the company has introduced the Glory 580, a seven-seater SUV that
looks to take on Honda BR-V.
Previewed at the Indonesia International Motor Show
(IIMS) in April, the new model is priced between IDR 245.9 million and IDR 308 million. That makes it slightly more expensive than the
BR-V as well as the Toyota Rush and Daihatsu Terios twins. It is locally assembled (CKD) in Serang with
plans for export.
For that, you get an inoffensively styled vehicle
with hints of the Honda HR-V at the front and the Audi Q5 at the rear
(especially the wraparound tailgate with integrated tail lights), as well as a
clean, sober interior that is reminiscent of many Volkswagen’s products. It’s a
unibody SUV with MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam rear
setup, making it a closer competitor to the BR-V than the Rush or Terios.
Power comes from either a 1.8 litre
naturally-aspirated petrol engine making 139 PS and 187 Nm of torque, or a 1.5
litre turbo mill producing 150 PS and 220 Nm. There’s a standard six-speed
manual transmission and a CVT option for both, and drive is sent exclusively to
the front wheels.
Standard kit includes LED daytime running lights,
LED tail lights, front and rear fog lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, a flat-bottomed
multifunction steering wheel, leather upholstery, single-zone automatic climate
control with a rear blower, an electronic parking brake, a navigation system
with an eight-inch touchscreen, six speakers, a reverse camera, dash cam and sunroof.
