Geely was announced the initial
details of its new B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA), its first modular
platform designed completely in-house. At the time, the company said that its
upcoming small crossover, codenamed SX11, will be the first model built on the
BMA platform, but it has now revealed photos of a new sedan that will beat it
to market, going on sale in the third quarter of the year.
Despite being based on a B-segment platform, the Bin
Rui is a C-segment model that slots just under the Emgrand GL,
if past information from CarNewsChina is accurate. According to the website,
the new four-door measures 4,680 mm long, 1,785 mm wide, 1,460 mm tall, making
it 45 mm shorter, 17 mm narrower and 18 mm lower than its sibling. Its 2,670 mm
wheelbase is also 30 mm shorter.
CarNewsChina also reported that the Bin Rui will
have two turbo petrol engines, confusingly with similar power outputs but
different torque figures. The 1.0 litre direct-injected three-cylinder produces
134 hp and 180 Nm of torque, while the 1.4 litre MPI four-pot churns out less
power (131 hp) but more torque (215 Nm).
Looking like a shrunken-down version of the Bo Rui
flagship, the Bin Rui features a sleek fastback design and a familiar front
fascia consisting of sweptback headlights and Geely’s signature “expanding
cosmos” grille. There’s also a prominent front fender bulge, another of the
brand’s design cues.
