Hyundai will expand its SUV range with two new
models globally, one positioned at the bottom of the line-up and the other up
top. The former, codenamed Hyundai A-CUV, was recently spotted on South Korean
roads, spy pictures posted by SHM’s Studio - Car & LEGO have revealed.
The A-CUV is an amalgamation of traditionally
designed models like the Creta and radically designed modern models like the
Kona that leads the SUV design progression at Hyundai. At the front, it will
likely have a twin-headlamp setup what Hyundai calls ‘Composite Light’ and an
extra large Cascading grille. From the sides, the Hyundai A-CUV looks like a
mini-Hyundai Creta. The rear-end is still hidden beneath the heavy camouflage.
Hyundai Latin America’s product specialist Armando
Cardoso has said that the Hyundai A-CUV will ride on a completely new platform.
No other details are available, but we expect it to come with at least the
1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine that is common among A- and,
B-segment Hyundai models in the western markets.
The Hyundai A-CUV is a model meant mainly for
developed markets. In the USA, it will go on sale around 2020, Hyundai
announced in November last year. Most mature markets where the Hyundai Kona is
sold could get the Hyundai A-CUV, trying to capture more conquest buyers.
