Hyundai has released the first bit of official
information on the upcoming i30 N Fastback, the third member of its expanding
high-performance model lineup wearing the N logo. The Korean car maker said that
development of the hot ‘five-door coupe’ is now well under way, testing
prototypes on a variety of road surfaces around Europe. This of course includes
the Nurbugring, where Hyundai has its own technical center.
Both the historic track and its surrounding roads
are used to evaluate the performance and durability of the upcoming Hyundai i30
N Fastback, which is expected to use the same turbocharged 2.0-liter
four-cylinder powertrain with its hatchback sibling.
This means that the finished car will be offered in
two power guises: 246 hp in the base model and 271 hp in the
Performance Package version. The exterior of the i30 N Fastback is going to feature a more
aggressive bodykit that includes bigger air intakes at the front, deeper side
sills, a rear diffuser and integrated wing on the hatchback, as well as a set
of bigger wheels.
The chassis will likely employ an adaptive
suspension and the same set of driving modes, as introduced in the i30 N
hatchback. Straight-line performance would be also similar, with the i30 N
hatchback capable of running the classic 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.
Hyundai says that the i30 N Fastback will be
unveiled later this year, with more information to be announced closer to the
time of the reveal.
