Mercedes-Benz Thailand has launched its second locally-assembled AMG model after the C 43 Coupe. It’s another coupe, albeit in SUV form – the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe. Compared to the CBU imported version, the Samut Prakan-assembled GLC 43 Coupe is 1.1 million baht cheaper at 4.69 million baht.

The GLC 43 Coupe is powered by a 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 with 367 PS and 520 Nm of torque, available from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. Power is sent to the wheels via a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and Merc’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system – the latter is a rear-biased system that splits torque 31:69 front-to-rear. 0-100 km/h is done in 4.9 seconds while top speed is limited to 250 km/h.

The GLC 43 Coupe is available in Malaysia but as a CBU import. Launched here in May 2017, it goes for RM 563,241 (GST zero-rated). Kitted out in identical fashion to the GLC43 with the normal roofline, it gets AMG sports suspension based on the Air Body Control system, ADS Plus adaptive damping and unique chassis mods. The latter includes special steering knuckles and load bearing joints in front and more negative camber on both front and multi-link rear axles for improved lateral dynamics.

The brakes have also been uprated, with 360 mm cross-drilled discs and four-piston calipers in front and 320 mm cross-drilled discs with single-piston calipers at the rear. Also on, a speed-sensitive, variable-ratio sports steering and an AMG Dynamic Select system, which provides five driving modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual).
