Porsche has quietly
taken the wraps off the Cayman GT4 Clubsport Rallye concept. Set to debut later
this month at Rallye Deutschland, the concept is based on the Cayman GT4
Clubsport and features an assortment of rally specific upgrades.
Porsche
declined to go into specifics, but the car has auxiliary lighting units and a
roof-mounted scoop. We can see additional underbody paneling, a roll cage
and lightweight wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Like the standard
model, the concept likely powered by a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that
produces 385 PS. It could be paired to a six-speed PDK
transmission.
Porsche didn’t say
much about the car, but it appears it might actually enter the race as the
automaker confirmed the concept will be driven by Romain Dumas. Dumas, as you
may remember, set a new record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb when
he completed the 19.99 km long course in 7 minutes and 57.148
seconds while driving the Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak.
If that wasn’t
interesting enough, Porsche confirmed they will be using the Rallye Deutschland
to gather feedback about the model. This information will then be used to
decide “if a similar car, based on a future model, could be developed.” The
decision will be made later this year and the production model would presumably
be based on the new 718 Cayman GT4 and its eventual Clubsport variant.
Little is known
about the next Cayman GT4 Clubsport, but the model is expected to debut in
2019. Previous reports have suggested the car will have more power and extra
downforce. The model is also expected to be easier to drive and easier to
purchase as production won’t be limited this time around.
