The ultimate EV would be a vehicle that never needs
to stop driving to charge. A car such as this would be able to pull power from
the road or perhaps the sun. Sono Motors is showing off a car that has solar
panels integrated into its bodywork.
The idea is that these solar panels can charge the
battery powering the car while you drive. Images show solar panels on the roof,
hood, and sides of the car as well as the trunk. Essentially anywhere a solar
panel could be fitted, there is one. Sono says that the Sion has a range of
250km and supports rapid charging.
Sono Motors says that the body solar panels can pull
enough energy from the sun to drive for 30km per day under optimum conditions.
The cells are covered with polycarbonate that is scratch and shatterproof. The
car even has what appears to be moss inside to filter the air you breathe. You
can preorder for 500 euro and the car will cost 16000 euro plus another 4000
euro for the battery. Deliveries are expected to start next year.
