From Italy comes a new electric race car called
Spice-x, a collaborative effort between several companies from the Piedmont
area. Unveiled at the Parco Valentino car show in early June, Spice-x is
designed to be a small and accessible electric Formula car. Its makers say it’s
a racer equally suited for circuit, slalom and hillclimb events.
Designed by Fabrizio Pepe of Mastery Design, Spice-x
is unusually small, measuring 3,827 mm in length and 1,695 mm in width. According to the press release, the compact footprint makes it
“easily transportable, practical and lightweight.”
Economic materials are said to have been employed
when building Spice-x, as the company’s aim is to have the “right costs” and
appeal to young racing drivers who obviously don’t have huge budgets at their
disposal.
Unfortunately, there are no specs or prices
available, but the release mentions a silent and non-polluting electric motor
that would allow Spice-x cars to race in the city.
Spice-x is said to have a very low aerodynamic
coefficient, regardless of the chosen version (with open or closed cockpit).
The company promises excellent performance, moderate maintenance fees, a light
body, and good handling capabilities. The Italians also promise that the
cockpit has bigger dimensions compared to traditional single-seat race cars.
We have to admit all those things sound great but
until Spice-x releases some specs we’ll have to take everything with a grain of
salt — especially the part about it being affordable. One thing is certain,
though: it looks like a mini LMP1 racer and that’s a great compliment to its
designers.
