Announced for the
British market, the Volvo S90, V90, and XC90 can now be ordered in T5 spec.
It’s based on the same 2.0-liter turbo four that forms the basis for the T8
Twin-Engine hybrid, but does without the electric assist. With 250 hp, it’s also more powerful than lower-spec versions of the engine – or
any of the diesels, for that matter, save for the torque which comes in at 350 Nm.
In the S90 sedan,
that translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 225 km/h, returning 42.8 mpg on the combined cycle. The V90 T5 takes
7 seconds to reach 62 and returns 42.8 mpg. The V90 Cross Country T5 takes 7.4
and returns 38.2 mpg. And the XC90 T5 takes 7.9 and returns 35.8.
Pricing ranges from
£ 41,120 for the S90 T5 R-Design to £ 59,235 for the XC90 T5 Inscription Pro. The
same engine is also available to US customers in the S90 sedan, V90 Cross
Country, and XC90, slotting in below the more potent T6 available here, with
prices ranging from US$ 48,100 for the S90 T5 FWD Momentum to US$ 56,950 for the XC90
T5 AWD R-Design.
