India Yamaha Motor
has released a teaser of the Yamaha R15 V3.0 MotoGP Edition on its YouTube
channel. According to our sources, the R15 V3.0 MotoGP edition will launch this week in India. The Yamaha R15 V3.0 MotoGP Edition gets the Yamaha MotoGP
factory livery in the racing blue paint scheme. The MotoGP livery comes with a
Movistar logo on the front fairing and the side panels, while an ENEOS logo
adorns the engine belly pan. That said, the MotoGP Edition comes without
Valentino Rossi or Maverick Vinales’ racing numbers. Mechanically, the
motorcycle remains unchanged.
Yamaha launched the
R15 V3.0 at INR 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) during the Auto Expo 2018;
however, the motorcycle recently received a price hike of INR 2,000. The R15
V3.0 MotoGP Edition could be priced at INR 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom), considering
the price difference in Indonesia is barely around INR 3,000.
Powering the Yamaha
R15 V3.0 MotoGP Edition is the engine of the standard model. The 155 cc,
single-cylinder, 4-valve, liquid-cooled engine generates a maximum power of 19
bhp at 10,000 rpm while producing peak torque of 15 Nm at 8,500 rpm. The engine
pairs to a six-speed transmission. The motorcycle comes with segment-first
features like variable valve actuation (VVA) technology and a slip & assist
clutch assembly.
The Yamaha R15 V3.0
MotoGP Edition gets full-LED headlamps and a faux RAM air intake with design
inspiration from the Yamaha R1. The motorcycle features an all-digital
instrument cluster and LED tail lamp. Yamaha is also offering a Metzeler
Sportec M5 H-rated rear tire and a track-only Daytona muffler as accessories on
the R15 V3.0.
The India-spec
Yamaha R15 V3.0 comes shod with telescopic forks up front and a linkage-type
adjustable rear mono-shock. Braking force comes from 282 mm front and 220 mm
rear disc brakes; however, ABS isn’t available. The motorcycle features
light-weight 17-inch wheels that wrap on 100/80 R17 front and 140/70 R17 rear
MRF tubeless tires. The Yamaha R15 competes with the Suzuki Gixxer SF and the
Bajaj Pulsar RS 200.
