The Honda mini-bike is back, in the 2019 Honda Monkey, retailing at RM 13,999.
Shown to the Malaysian public at the Art of Speed 2018 show last July, the
Monkey uses the Honda MSX 125 SF / Honda Grom, as
its basis.
Taking the 125 cc, air-cooled single-cylinder power
plant from the MSX 125, the Monkey’s engine produces 9.6 hp at 7,000 rpm and
10.5 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. Power is delivered to the rear wheel via a
four-speed gearbox and chain final drive.
Fuelling for the Monkey is with Honda’s PGM-FI and
fuel is carried in a 5.6-litre tank that closely follows the retro style of the
original Monkey. Rolling on 12-inch tyres, the Monkey is stopped by a 220 mm diameter
brake disc in front, and a 190 mm unit in the rear with seat height at a
rider-friendly 775 mm.
Full LED lighting is found throughout the 2019 Honda
Monkey, and a digital LCD instrument display shows everything the rider needs
to know. There are three colour options available in Malaysia for the Honda
Monkey – Pearl Nebula Red, Pearl Glittering Blue, and the aptly named Banana
Yellow.
