Full-size luxury SUVs keep getting pricier, and Infiniti is getting in on the action with the introduction of the QX80 Limited. The top-of-the-line trim is new for 2019, and its pricing just released places it not only as the most expensive model Infiniti offers, but likely its most expensive ever.

Where the base QX80 Luxe starts at US$ 65,100, the new Limited model carries a handsome price tag of US$ 89,800. Factor in the mandatory $1,295 destination charge, as CarsDirect points out, and you’re looking at a massive US$ 91,095.

That’s considerably more than the US$ 67,600 commanded by the top-spec Q70L sedan. Even the Q45 – Infiniti’s last full-size luxury sedan – carried a base price barely more than US$ 56,000 when it was last offered over a decade ago, which would translate to less than US$ 80k in today’s money.

The big sticker further propels the recently updated QX80 into heady competition with the likes of the Lexus LX570, Lincoln Navigator, and Cadillac Escalade among the most luxurious, full-size, truck-based sport-utility vehicles on the market.

Based on the Nissan Armada, Infiniti’s flagship first launched in 2004 as the QX56. The current, second-generation model arrived in 2010, and was rebadged in 2013 as the QX80 in line with a reconfigured brand nomenclature. It stretches nearly 5.3 meters long and weighs over 2,785 kg, making it one of the biggest, heaviest vehicles on the road.

The Limited model loads it up with even more luxurious equipment, including 22-inch wheels, satin chrome trim, two-tone semi-aniline leather and Alcantara upholstery, matte silver open-pore wood, and a unique Anthracite Gray paint option (among 10 exterior finishes available). It also includes just about every option available on the QX80 – including items fro the ProASSIST, ProACTIVE, Theater, and Sensory packages available on the base version. So there’s little left to be wanted on the top model and few options, but you pay dearly for all the equipment.
