Subaru unveiled the 2019 BRZ in Japan earlier this
week and now the company is following up by introducing the US-spec model. Costing US$ 200 more than last
year’s model, the entry-level BRZ Premium starts at US$ 25,795 and largely carries
over. The coupe has been equipped with dual USB ports and a “rear
wheel opening arch fin to enhance aerodynamic stability.”
Since the changes are minor, the BRZ Premium
continues to have LED headlights and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, the car
comes equipped with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an eight-speaker audio
system and 6.2-inch Starlink infotainment system.
The mid-level BRZ Limited starts at US$ 28,645 and the
model now comes equipped with an updated 7.0-inch infotainment system which
offers over-the-air updates via Wi-Fi. The infotainment system also has a
couple of new features including a “Sports Flash” which provides updates about
your favorite teams. There’s also a
“Tune Mix” function which “mixes songs from music channels stored as presets.”
Carryover items include a dual-zone automatic
climate control system, a push-button ignition and Alcantara front seats with
leather bolsters. Other highlights include LED fog lights, a security system
and a 4.2-inch color display in the instrument cluster which shows
performance-related information.
The big news for 2019 is the addition of the BRZ
Series.Gray special edition. Based on the BRZ Limited, the model has a Cool
Gray Khaki exterior with Crystal Black Silica mirrors and 17-inch alloy wheels
with a black finish. Interior changes are modest, but include a frameless rearview mirror
and Grand Luxe accents with red contrast stitching.
While the changes are small, the model comes
standard with the Performance Package which is a US$ 1,195 option on the BRZ
Limited. It includes a Brembo braking system, SACHS shock absorbers and the
aforementioned wheels.
The BRZ Series.Gray starts at US$ 30,140 and production
will be limited to 250 units. Unsurprisingly, the car’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine carries over
and continues to produce up to 205 hp and 211 Nm of torque. It can be connected to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed
automatic transmission.
