BMW is putting the X6M high-performance version through its paces. These are the
very first spy shots of the next-generation BMW X6M (F96) and, as you can see,
there’s no padded camouflage on the prototype. It does have a full body wrap,
but that doesn’t stop us from deciphering its silhouette — not that it would be
a hard thing to do, given that the template has already been laid out by the X6
G06.
BMW M’s big crossover gets the same “coupé-like” roofline
as its less powerful sibling, but it spices things up thanks to a series of
muscular elements. Those include the flared wheel arches that accommodate wider
tracks and wheels, the massive air intakes in the front bumper, the trademark
quad exhausts, and the air vents behind the front wheels.
The BMW M body kit consists
of new bumpers, side skirts, side mirrors, a subtle roof spoiler that now has
an irregular shape in the middle, and another spoiler integrated into the boot
lid.
The next-generation BMW X6M is expected to share the
same S63 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine as the upcoming X5M. Since the current
M5 also features this power plant in a standard state of tune of 600 PS, we expect the X6M and X5M to squeeze a bit more power from the
eight-cylinder unit. As before, power will be channeled to all four wheels,
with the X6M likely to get the M5’s M xDrive system.
The second-generation BMW X6M should arrive after
the launch of the regular X6, which means we won’t get to see it before the end
of 2019, with sales probably launching in early 2020.
