A dealership-level source has informed us that Jeep
India will launch a new variant of the Compass SUV on 20 September. Dubbed the
Jeep Compass Limited Plus, the new model will become the new range-topping
trim. Select Jeep dealerships are accepting bookings for the new top-spec
variant for an amount of Rs 51,000.
The development is in sync with a previous report,
which cited Steve Zanlunghi, Head of Jeep (APAC region), as saying that the
company plans on keeping the Compass "fresh and alive" with the
introduction of "different variants".
The Jeep Compass Limited Plus will offer a dual-tone
exterior paint scheme. The most significant update will come in the form of an
electric panoramic sunroof. The new variant rides on a set of new alloy wheels.
On the inside, the new model will feature a tan leather upholstery and electric
adjustment for the front seats with memory function. The cabin will feature six
airbags. The 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system will be replaced with an
8.4-inch unit, which provided only on the export-spec Compass.
The Jeep Compass Limited Plus won't have any
mechanical updates. It will be available with two engine variants - 2.0-litre
Multijet II turbo-diesel and 1.4-litre Multiair turbo-petrol. The diesel motor
comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It offers a maximum
power/torque of 173 PS/350 Nm and an optional 4WD. The petrol engine produces a
maximum power of 162 PS along with a peak torque of 250 Nm. Transmission options
include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DDCT dual-clutch automatic. It's
available in a front wheel drive (FWD) configuration only.
The Jeep Compass Limited Plus is likely to cost Rs
22.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Its launch will be followed by the introduction of the
range-topping Trailhawk version in early 2019. The Compass Trailhawk will
reportedly offer a BSVI-compliant engine and an automatic transmission for the
diesel engine.
