The Mahindra Marazzo went
on sale in India at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Pan India). It is currently available with a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel
engine that comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. At the launch
event, the company revealed that it plans to introduce petrol engine and
automatic transmission options by April 2020.
Speaking on the delay in the launch of the petrol
version, Dr Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra and Mahindra, said that
his company has refrained from launching a petrol model at the moment as it
would have been too expensive to introduce a BSIV petrol engine now and a
BSVI-compliant version by 2020.
Mahindra is yet to divulge any details on the petrol
engine for its latest model. That said, it's widely known that the manufacturer
is currently working on four new petrol engines, which range from 0.6-litre to
2.0-litre in displacement. One of these engines, which has a high probability
of making it to the Marazzo, is a 1.5-litre unit that can offer up to 163.15 PS
of maximum power.
The Mahindra Marazzo is claimed to be the first-ever
passenger vehicle to have a transversely-mounted engine and front wheel drive
layout with a ladder-frame architecture. Dubbed as 'Best of both World', the
patented architecture leads to low floor height and a flat floor while
providing the general benefits of a frame-based construction.
The Mahindra Marazzo complies with the latest
pedestrian safety norms. It also meets the side and rear crash protection norms
that aren't applicable to its class of vehicles. The bodyshell of the latest
Mahindra model is made up of 52% high-strength high-press steel. Standard
safety features across all the trims include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD,
brake assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts and rear parking sensors. The top-end
grade gets a rear parking camera with dynamic guiding lines and an emergency
call feature as well.
