McLaren unveiled the 600LT this summer and it now
appears the model will be joined by a Spider variant. According to California Air
Resources Board documents (PDF) discovered by Autoguide, the 600LT Spider will
be a 2019 model. This suggests the car will be introduced relatively soon.
The document doesn’t reveal much else about the
model, but it should be largely identical to the coupe. As a result, we can
expect a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine that develops 592 hp and 619 Nm of torque. It will be paired to a seven-speed sequential
shift gearbox which sends power to the rear wheels.
The powertrain enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 2.8 seconds and run the quarter mile in 10.4 seconds.
Given enough room, the car will eventually hit a top speed of 328
km/h. The 600LT Spider could be a touch slower than the coupe as the 570S
Spider weighs 45.8 kg more than the 570S Coupe. However, McLaren says
both of the these models can run from 0-96 km/h in 3.1 seconds
before hitting a top speed of 328 km/h. That being said, the 570S
Spider has a top speed of 315 km/h when the roof is down.
Regardless of the final numbers, we can expect the
600LT Spider to weigh approximately 100 kg less than the 570S
Spider. The model should also have improved aerodynamics, a sportier suspension
and lightweight forged alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires. The McLaren 600LT starts at US$ 240,000 in the United States, so it’s possible that the 600LT Spider could
cost around US$ 264,000.
