Following the
production start of the V8-powered AMG GT 63 and 63 S 4-door models, Mercedes
has started taking orders for the “milder” 43- and 53-badged models in Europe.
The “entry-level”
model, which goes by the full name of AMG GT 43 4MATIC+ 4-door Coupé, starts at
€ 95,259.50 in Germany (US$ 110,940). For that kind of money,
buyers get a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-pot, good for 367 PS and 500 Nm of torque. It’s linked to an
AMG Speedshift TCT 9G nine-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all
four wheels via the 4Matic+ system that features fully variable torque
distribution.
The setup allows
for a 0-100 km/h sprint of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 270 km/h. Fuel economy is not bad either,
thanks in part to the EQ Boost starter-alternator electric motor that feeds a
48-volt electrical system.
It assists the
internal combustion engine with additional short-term outputs of 22 PS and 250 Nm, contributing to an average fuel consumption of 9.4-9.1
l/100 km (25-25.8 mpg US), and corresponding CO2 emissions of 215-209 g/km.
Buyers who want
more performance without sacrificing fuel economy can upgrade to the AMG GT 53
4Matic+, which starts at € 109,182.50 (US$ 127,260) in Germany. In this case,
the 3.0-liter inline-six makes 435 PS and 520 Nmof
torque.
While fuel economy
figures remain identical with the 43-badged model, the 0 to 100 km/h sprint is
dispatched 0.4 seconds quicker and the top speed rises to 285 km/h.
