Motor1 France's illustrator has created a rendering
of the next-gen Peugeot 208 with styling bits incorporated from the all-new
Peugeot 508 GT. The website says this sketch provides for a sportier take of
the small car, and that the real design will be a bit conservative.
Expected to be revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor
Show, the next-gen Peugeot 208 will be underpinned by the CMP or Common Modular
Platform, co-developed by PSA and Dongfeng Motor. The new platform is expected
to give designers more space to work with on the interior while offering a 40
kg weight saving. It will also underpin the next generation 2019 Peugeot 2008
which is expected to debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.
On the powertrain front, the 2019 208 will feature new
generation 1.5-liter HDi diesel engines, while the petrol would be 1.2-liter
units. The performance-oriented 208 GTi is expected with an all-new 1.6-liter
THP petrol unit with as much as 220 hp. According to reports, a hybrid could
also be in the offing.
Reports last year said that Peugeot will re-enter
the Indian market with the next-gen 208 by 2020. The French carmaker has
announced joint ventures with CK Birla's subsidiary companies to assemble and
market its products and to manufacture powertrains (with subsidiary Avtec Ltd). Before local manufacturing,
reports state Peugeot could start making its cars and SUVs through CKD kits.
