Suzuki Motorcycle is reportedly bringing new dirt
motorcycles to the Indian market. Autocar India reports that four new Suzuki
dirt bikes are heading to India. The report further adds that dealers have
already received the RM-Z250 motocrosser while other models will arrive soon.
All the four motorcycles are CBU route and thus would arrive with an expensive
price tag.
The dirt motorcycle line-up will include the DR-Z50,
RM-Z250, RM-Z450 and RMX450Z. The motorcycle would only be allowed on tracks
and not on public roads. Thus, you won’t find hardware like headlight, tail
light, blinkers or rear-view mirrors on any of the bikes.
The off-road/trail riding focused motorcycles will
receive wire-spoked wheels, wrapped in knobby tyres and a tall-set exhaust. The
motorcycles would also receive high ground clearance to tackle any obstacle in
their path. Suspension duties would be performed by upside-down telescopic
front forks and monoshock units at the rear.
Delivery time, depending on the variant purchased
would reportedly take between 15 to 20 days. The motorcycles have been priced
at:
- DR-Z50: INR 2.65 lakh
- RM-Z250: INR 7.20 lakh
- RM-Z450: INR 8.40 lakh
- RMX450Z: INR 8.75 lakh
Mechanical specifications for the DR-Z50 include a
49 cc, four-stroke, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which will propel the
motorcycle with a kerb weight of 54kg. This motorcycle will be targeted at
young riders. The RM-Z250 will use a 250cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled,
single-cylinder motor. The kerb weight is rated at 106kg while the seat is 955mm
tall. The motorcycle will also feature fully adjustable KYB- suspension on both
ends.
The RM-Z450 will come equipped with a 449cc,
four-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. The motorcycle weighs of
112kg (kerb weight) while the seat is 960mm tall. The RMX450Z will use the same
449cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that is seen on the
RM-Z450. However, the motorcycle comes equipped with a headlight for enduro
riding. Despite having a headlight, the RMX450Z, just like other upcoming
Suzuki dirt motorcycles, will not be street legal.
The new dirt bike range are the only rivals for
Kawasaki motorcycles in the same segment in the Indian market. Prices for the
new Suzuki dirt motorcycles are in the same range as the Kawasaki bikes. With
the first units already arriving at dealerships, it won’t be long before the
Indian arm of the Japanese two-wheeler brand makes an announcement.
