A 1983 Porsche 911 SCRS Rothmans Safari which will
surely light a fire under the belly of any Porsche enthusiast is currently for
sale on eBay. This 911 started life as a 1983 911SC and came to Trissl Sports
Cars Florence in desperate need of a restoration. Rather than simply restoring
the car to its former self, the seller decided to transform it into as SCRS
inspired by the famed Rothman East African Safari race car.
The vehicle’s transformation saw its 3.0-liter
engine rebuilt by Martins Classic Cars and outfitted with Dougherty Camshafts
and polished and ported cylinder heads. Also included in the modifications was
a lightweight clutch system, custom-built half shafts, and a bespoke fuel tank.
As for the 911’s body, it was stripped down and sent
to an Amelia Island Concours-winning painter where the car received a paint
scheme identical to the original Porsche Rothmans 911 SCRS. Elsewhere, the car
features a distinctive light pod, 16-inch Fuchs wheels, Bilstein coilover
suspension, and brakes from Bremtek Racing. The seller says that since the
transformation, the car has been driven just 160 km.
A quick scroll through the images of the car show
just how comprehensive the alterations were. The interior, for example,
includes a set of bucket seats with harnesses, a full roll cage, reappointed
black leather on the dashboard and steering wheel, and a gear knob protruding
out of the transmission tunnel that’s just begging to be used.
At the time of writing, the highest bid was US$ 25,100,
unsurprisingly short of the reserve. There are just over five days left in the
auction.
