The 2019 Yamaha MT-15 has been unveiled in Thailand,
which is basically a naked streetfighter version of the Yamaha R15. The biggest highlight of the new
Yamaha MT-15 is the design, which is borrowed from the bigger Yamaha MT-09. The
new MT-15 features an all-new bug-eyed LED headlamp setup along with a muscular
fuel tank and a lowered tail section with a single-piece seat. The bike comes
with a new digital instrument cluster, which is similar to the one on the
Yamaha R15.
The 2019 Yamaha MT-15 continues to feature the same
10-spoke alloy wheels and aluminium swing-arm from the previous generation.
Mechanically, the new MT-15 receives an entirely new heart. Powering the Yamaha
MT-15 is a Yamaha R15 V3.0-sourced all-new 155 cc, single-cylinder,
liquid-cooled, four valve engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) and a
slipper clutch.
The fuel injected motor is capable of churning out
19 bhp of maximum power while developing a peak torque of 14.8 Nm. The 4-stroke
engine couples with a 6-speed gearbox that sends power to the wheel via a final
chain drive. The powertrain fits snugly inside the chassis, which is borrowed
from the older model. The new engine offers
better low-end and mid-range power than the predecessor.
The 2019 Yamaha MT-15 features 37 mm USD forks at
the front and a preload adjustable mono-shock at the rear. Stopping power comes
from a 267 mm disc at the front with radially mounted brake calliper, while the
back receives a 220 mm rotor with a floating calliper. The new MT-15 features
17-inch alloy wheels at both the ends that wrap on 110-section front and
140-section rear IRC tubeless tires.
The Yamaha MT-15 receives a fuel tank capacity of 10
litres, while it tips the weighing scales with a kerb weight of 133 kg.
Dimensionally, the bike measures at 1,965 mm in length, 800 mm in width and
1,065 mm in height, while it has a saddle height of 810 mm and a wheelbase of
1,335 mm.
