Japanese automakers save some models for their own domestic market. It’s the new Style edition of the Daihatsu Boon – a
subcompact hatchback otherwise known as the Daihatsu Sirion or Toyota Passo.
And while it may be oriented towards style, it’s not a
style that we’d embrace.
Launched together with the latest revisions to the
Boon, the Style edition is characterized by “soft, rounded lines forming a
distinctive and cute silhouette,” in the manufacturer’s own terms. More to the
point, it’s pink.
Juicy Pink Metallic is what Daihatsu calls it, and
it’s available in either a single tone or two-two finish with a white roof.
Fortunately there’s a Powdery Beige Metallic version as well, but the Japanese
automaker is clearly going after the Hello Kitty crowd with this one.
It also features unique alloys measuring all of 14
inches, along with LED fog lamps, white exterior trim, magenta-accented
interior accents, faux-suede upholstery, and special glass that filters out
infrared and ultraviolet light.
At ¥ 1,522,800 (US$ 13.5k) in front-drive spec or
¥ 1,718,280 (US$ 15k) with all-wheel drive, it’s not the most expensive
version of the Boon that Daihatsu offers domestically – but it’s near the top
of the line for a budget-oriented supermini. Pricing for the revised Boon (sans
the Pepto coating) starts at ¥ 1,177,200 (US$ 10k) in base X trim and tops out at
¥ 1,891,080 (US$ 17k) for a fully loaded Boon CILQ with the G Package and
AWD.
