Ford has announced that it will introduced a wagon
version of the Mondeo Hybrid in Europe from 2019, which will join the existing
sedan model. The wagon hybrid will be part of a facelift for the Mondeo range.
According to the automaker, the Mondeo Hybrid wagon
will cater to customers who “carry larger loads while still benefitting from
electric powertrain without range anxiety.” Developed exclusively for the
European market, the model will be available in a variety of trim levels,
including an upscale Vignale.
The Ford Mondeo Hybrid wagon will use the same
hybrid powertrain found in the sedan model, which consists of a 2.0 litre
Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric traction
motor/generator and a CVT. A 1.4 kWh lithium-ion, air-cooled battery located
behind the rear seats is also present, and can be charged via the generator or
regenerative braking on a 12 V electrical system.
In total, the powertrain serves up a total system
output of 187 PS, and is claimed to deliver fuel efficiency from 4.4 l/100 km
and CO2 emissions from 101 g/km (WLTP) as a sedan. Other systems present on the
Mondeo Hybrid include an electric air-con compressor, water pump, vacuum pump,
as well as an inverter system controller.
