Instagram user
hyundaifanclub has spotted a totally uncamouflaged Hyundai Kona Electric on New
Delhi roads. The all-electric SUV was showcased at the 2018 MOVE Summit in
September and its launch will take place in H1 2019.
Internationally,
the Hyundai Kona Electric has been on sale in two powertrain variants. The base
version draws power from an electric motor that outputs 136 PS and 395 Nm. It
has a 39.2 kWh battery pack that gives a driving range of 345 km*. The costlier
variant offers a maximum power of 204 PS and a
peak torque of 395 Nm. The electric motor gets its power from a 64 kWh battery
pack, which provides a driving range of 546 km*.
The Hyundai Kona
Electric is expected to cost around INR 25 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be
brought to India via the CKD route, with the assembly taking place at the
Chennai plant. The company has set a monthly sales target of 50 units. It will
likely offer only the 39.2 kWh variant to keep the price as low as possible.
In addition to the
Hyundai Kona Electric, two more imported EVs are on their way to India later
this decade, namely Audi e-tron and Porsche Taycan. However, these will arrive
as CBUs and have a substantially higher price tag.
