Classic Legends has
unveiled the all-new engine for the soon to be launched motorcycles, bringing
Jawa brand a step closer to arriving in India. The new Jawa engine, which is
engine built on a BS6 ready platform, is said to be a befitting testament to
the old one.
The new 293 cc
engine was developed with one of the world’s leading engine specialist at the
technical center in Varese, Italy. It is ready to comply with the new BS-VI
norms that will come into effect from April 2019. The new engine is a 293 cc,
liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC, fuel injected unit that packs a decent 27
bhp of maximum power and 28 Nm of peak torque. It is tuned to offer a generous
mid-range and a flat torque curve.
The motor was
developed with one of the world’s leading engine specialist at the technical
center in Varese, Italy. It is claimed to be strong enough to last a lifetime.
A team of sound engineers in Italy worked extensively through countless cycles
of harmonic pipe combinations and multiple other permutations to achieve the
unique exhaust note of the old Jawa motorcycles from the new motor.
The company has
revealed the specifications of the new engine, but no further details about the
upcoming motorcycles. In an interview published in September 2018, Anupam
Thareja, Founder, Classic Legends, said that the Jawa motorcycles would arrive
“before the end of the year.” The brand will re-start its India operations with
three motorcycles.
Thareja also added
that the brand has already started to receive a positive response from
potential dealers. He said that as many as 64 dealers are already interested in
the brand and that number could go to at least 100 by the time the motorcycles
arrive in the Indian market.
Regular readers
would already know that Mahindra & Mahindra is working on bringing back the
Jawa and BSA range of motorcycles in the Indian market. In October 2016,
Mahindra & Mahindra acquired a controlling stake in Classic Legends Private
Limited.
