A KTM 390 Duke was
stripped and given a rugged look to mimic scrambler style motorcycles. USA
based Colt Wrangler Motorcycles has modified the Austrian pocket rocket, and as
seen in the photographs, the bike retains its orange-painted chassis, but the
sub-frame has some tweaks. The chiselled bodywork that comes from the factory
has been removed and replaced by custom panels.
Up front is a pair
of vertically stacked, asymmetrically mounted headlights that sit on a custom
panel. Giving the motorcycle an off-roader persona is the beak style design
that sits below the light. The striped look has resulted in the removal of the
front fender, revealing the knobby tyre.
The flat,
single-piece handlebar performs the steering duties. The instrument console has
been repositioned and installed on the custom-built fuel tank. This customised
KTM will be going off the tarmac, and thus the digital display has been placed
behind a transparent screen for better protection. The keyhole, too, is moved
on to the fuel tank, next to the instrument console.
The fuel tank gets
an industrial look that adds to the rugged visuals of the motorcycle. Following
the tank is a rider-only saddle with a ribbed cover and a hump at the rear.
Behind the seat is a compact, LED tail light that has been merged into the
sub-frame. The stock exhaust is traded for a tall set unit that is installed on
the left side, under the saddle. Underneath, a custom metal bash-plate provides
protection to the engine from flying debris.
Stock hardware like
the upside down telescopic front forks have been retained, but the rear
features an Öhlins sourced monoshock. The standard 17-inch alloy wheels are
wrapped in off-road spec knobby tyres that can dig deeper into the surface for
enhanced grip on the beaten path. Stopping power is continued to be provided by
single-disc at both ends, accompanied by the safety net of dual-channel ABS.
There is no mention
of upgrades to the engine. For reference, the standard motorcycle comes with a
373cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4 valve engine that makes
43.5 PS of power @ 9,500 RPM and 35 Nm of peak torque @ 7,250 rpm. The engine
is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
