Hard as it may seem to believe, there are those for
whom even a Hummer H1 isn’t tough enough. Fortunately Mil-Spec is there to
help, and it’s just revealed its latest build. The Michigan-based modifier has
made a name for itself beefing up Humvees with all manner of upgrades. Half of
those trucks it’ll make will be custom-ordered by individual clients, but this
one was commissioned by the factory itself – and is now up for sale.
The fourth Launch Edition made to date, this Hummer
is based on a four-door hardtop with the short pickup bed in the back – as
opposed to the two-door pickup, four-door soft-top, four-door slantback, and
five-door wagon versions Mil-Spec also offers. But as you can probably tell,
it’s been comprehensively enhanced.
It rides on 40-inch off-road tires (not normally
offered), winch kit, tow package, heavy-duty brush guard, beefy rear step
bumper, aluminum intake snorkel, front and overhead light bars, dropdown tire
carrier, wide-body kit, and the black powder-coated Baja Package. The interior
is all done up in duck canvas and black leather, and the bodywork’s been
finished in matte Desert Tan.
Like any other of Mil-Spec’s Launch Edition Hummers,
it packs a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 with 500 horsepower and a bonkers 1,000
lb-ft of torque, channeled (naturally) to all four wheels through an Allison
1000 six-speed automatic transmission.
Mil-Spec will sell this one to you for US$ 249,000, minus an available factory-direct rebate. Suffice it to say that this
is not an affordable alternative to a Jeep Wrangler, no matter how you might
option one.
