The Tata Harrier’s exterior has leaked online in a
spy shot published by Team-BHP forum member BipB. Tata Motors has announced
that it has opened the new model’s bookings today. The latest spy shot gives a clear
look at the Tata Harrier’s profile and rear-end. On the sides, the bulging
fenders, and a notably high ground clearance give a compelling look the SUV.
The upswept beltline makes the greenhouse sleeker towards the rear, lending a
sense of sportiness. At the back, the Jaguar-style elegant tail lamps float
outwards to the sides and a large skid plate underlines the toughness. As for
the interior, a floating central display is visible in the spy shot.
The Tata Harrier is underpinned by a modified
version of JLR’s D8 platform. The first production model to embody the IMPACT
2.0 design language uses two more components from other automakers. The engine
is from FCA, the 140 PS 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbocharged diesel mill. Tata
Motors, however, has branded it ‘Kryotec’. The 6-speed automatic transmission,
which is expected as an option to a 6-speed manual transmission, comes from
Hyundai. An AWD system is unlikely, even as an option.
Interested customers can book the Tata Harrier
starting today at a dealership or on tataharrier.com, for an amount of INR
30,000. IAB understands that the media preview will likely take place next
month, followed by a market launch in early 2019. A 7-seat version (codename:
Tata H7X) will follow by 2020. Preparing for a slew of premium models arriving
starting next year, Tata Motors is working on upgrading its dealerships.
