A completely camouflaged test mule of the Bajaj
Pulsar 220 ABS has been spied testing for the first time in India, courtesy of
Thrustzone. While the publication claims it to be the Bajaj Pulsar 250 with a
BS-VI compliant engine, we feel it’s an older test mule of the updated ABS
variant of the 220 as it’s too early for Bajaj Auto to start testing the
speculated Pulsar 250. Moreover, on 24 September, the 2019 Bajaj Pulsar 220 ABS
version was spied in the Ladakh region.
Bajaj Auto is working on the next-generation Pulsar
range, which could have a flagship Pulsar 250. The new Pulsar family is planned
for introduction only in 2020. Coming back to the 2019 Bajaj Pulsar 220 test mule, the bike is
covered with heavy camouflage. While the motorcycle looks mostly similar to the
outgoing model, it gets an engine belly cover. The earlier spy images have
revealed that the 2019 Pulsar 220 will feature new graphics and at least a
single-channel ABS unit.
The current Bajaj Pulsar 220 is powered by a 220cc,
single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine that produces 21 PS of maximum power and 19
Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Suspension components include
telescopic front forks and twin spring-loaded shock absorbers at the back. Anchorage
comes from a 260 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear rotor. The bike rides on
17-inch alloy wheels that wrap on 90/90-section front and 120/80-section rear
tyres.
The Bajaj Pulsar 220 has a fuel tank capacity of 15
litres and a kerb weight of 155 kg. The current model is priced at INR 97,446
(ex-showroom Delhi). The Bajaj Pulsar 220 rivals the Yamaha Fazer 25.
