Superceding the Ducati Panigale 1299 V-twin at the
top of its superbike range is the 2019 Ducati Panigale V4 R, joining the
current Panigale V4 and V4 S. Carrying the V-four Stardale engine, based on the
Desmosedici racing engine used in MotoGP, the Panigale V4 is, according to
Ducati, the closest thing you can get to the race machine, complete with
winglets.
Compared to the 214 hp, 1.103 cc V-four Stradale
engine in the Panigale V4 S, the V4 R carries a 998 cc V-four that makes 221 hp at 15,250 rpm and 11 Nm of torque at 11,500
rpm. Fed by EFi with elliptical throttle bodies, the Panigale V4 Stradale
engine claims a power-to-weight ratio of 1.1 hp per kg in standard trim.
Equipped as standard with an up-and-down
quickshifter, the V4 R naturally uses the best available components from Brembo
and Ohlins. The front wheel is stopped by twin 330 mm diameter semi-floating
discs clamped by Brembo M4.32 Monobloc callipers with Bosch Cornering ABS EVO
as standard.
Suspension is an Ohlins fully-adjustable titanium
nitrided NPX fork while the rear end is help up by a fully-adjustable OHlins
TTX36 monoshock. However, the more road-oriented Panigale V4 S gets Ohlins
semi-active NIX30 and TTX36 electronic suspension.
Claiming a wet weight of 193 kg, fuel for the V4 R
is carried in a 16-litre tank with a monoposto or single-seat as standard. A
full suite of electronic riding aids comes as standard equipment including
riding nd power delivery modes.
Panigale V4 R also
comes with Bosch Cornering ABS EVO. Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie
Control, Ducati Slide Control and Engine Braking Control. An aluminium alloy
single-sided swingarm carries a Marchesini forged aluminium wheel and a
lithium-ion battery cuts weight.
