We’re getting closer to the launch of the all-new
2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD pickup truck and these news spy photos prove that. The heavy-duty pickup drops its
heavy vinyl camo for the first time, giving us the best look yet at the design.
The prototypes do wear a body-hugging camouflage foil but that doesn’t prevent
us from spotting some of the key design details.
For starters, we get the best look yet at the new
headlight design and its LED signature. The 2020 Chevy
Silverado HD mimics its smaller sibling and adopts two-piece headlamps. Unlike
the 2019 Silverado 1500, though, each of the light units has a boomerang-shaped
DRL signature.
The images also allow us to spot fragments of the
massive front grille, which will feature “Chevrolet” lettering as a teaser
revealed earlier this year. Interestingly, the 2020 Silverado HD adds
integrated bed steps on each side. Located just behind the rear doors, they add
to those integrated into the rear bumper, allowing an easy access to the bed
from all four corners.
Scheduled to enter production in the third quarter
of 2019, the 2020 Silverado HD will offer 2500HD, 3500HD, and 3500HD chassis
cab configurations. Therefore, it will slot between the Silverado 1500 and the
Silverado 4500/5500/6500HD that debuted earlier this year.
Engine options are unknown for now but the current
Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD come with a standard 6.0-liter V8 that produces 360
hp and 514 Nm of torque. A 6.6-liter Duramax V8
turbodiesel delivering 445 hp and 1,232 Nm of torque is
available as an option.
