BMW may have unveiled the X3 M and X4 M in prototype
guise last month, but the vehicles it showed were covered in a thin-layer of
camouflage. With this in mind, Bimmer Post has decided to render the two
performance SUVs without any camo, providing us with an unimpeded look at the
completed exterior designs.
Compared to typical X3 and X4 models, the visual
modifications made to the M models are exactly what you’d expect. They include
revised front and rear fascias, enlarged air intakes, beefed-up side skirts,
bespoke wheels, and subtle lip spoilers extending from the rear of the roof.
They certainly have an appealing amount of road presence.
BMW hasn’t confirmed final performance
specifications for the duo, but has confirmed that they will both use a
straight six-cylinder engine with a pair of turbochargers. According to
previous reports, both models will deliver 454 hp and could be later joined by
Competition variants that lift grunt towards the 500 hp mark. This engine will
be reportedly used by the latest-generation M3 and M4.
Elsewhere, the new crossovers will be sold
exclusively with an M xDrive all-wheel drive system similar to the one used by
the all-conquering M5. Other modifications made over lesser X3s and X4s include
an active M rear differential and sportier suspension that drops the ride height
and improves handling.
BMW is remaining tight-lipped about when the new X3
M and X4 M will launch. However, we expect to see the pair unveiled in full
early next year before deliveries commence in mid-2019.
