Peugeot showcased its new range of plug-in hybrid
petrol vehicles at the 2018 Paris Auto Show. The range consists of the Peugeot
508 and 508 SW (Station Wagon) and the Peugeot 3008 SUV. They will be available
from the second quarter of 2019 in the European market.
The Peugeot 508 SW Hybrid combines the 1.6-litre
PureTech petrol engine capable of 180 hp with a 110 hp electric motor for a
combined output of 225 hp. The total cost of ownership is claimed to be one of
the lowest thanks to the less than 49g/km of CO2 emissions. The 11.8 kWh
battery is capable of a pure electric range of 40 km as per the WLTP cycle.
Three driving modes are available on the 508 SW Hybrid: ECO, POWER and CHARGE,
the last allowing the battery to charge when the foot is off the accelerator.
All plug-in hybrids from the Peugeot brand will
benefit from an e-EAT8 8-speed automatic transmission (Electric Efficient
Automatic Transmission). In the pure electric mode, the top speed is 135 km/h
and thereafter the engine takes over. Buyers can charge the battery to 100
percent in 7 hours using a standard plug, 4 hours using reinforced Greenup
socket and in 1 hour 45 minutes using a Wallbox (32A charger).
Similar to the conventional 508 SW, the hybrid
variant offers 530L of boot space thanks to the placement of the 300V
lithium-ion battery under the rear seats. All hybrid variants get a touchscreen
with a special hybrid menu which displays energy flow, consumption statistics,
fuel consumption, range in all-electric mode, and a list of charging stations.
